Dante’s Inferno Should Be Interesting February 26, 2009

It’s always wild to hear people talking about aspects of your faith use terms like “mythos” or “Judeo-Christian”. While I appreciate the respectful manner of that kind of verbage; I just feel really compelled to shout at the top of my lungs that this subject matter is real!
Case in point, the in-development action game Dante’s Inferno, a title loosely based on Dante’s interpretative poem the Divine Comedy sends you, as a beefed up and very angry Dante, to Hell, in order to save your murdered fiance’s soul from the original big bad boss himself; Lucifer. And no, Dante’s interpretation of Hell is not really supported by the Bible; But Hell itself is biblical, very real, and very scary. Here are a few Biblical truths about it:
1. It’s not actually intended or designed for man, but for Satan and his tribe of fallen angels
2. In the parable of the Rich man and Lazarus – one of the most vivid and present-tense descriptions of Hell – we hear Jesus describe the rich man as being “in torment” and in “agony” and fully aware of his predicament
3. Hell’s duty is eternal and final, and people can end up there, and people don’t want to end up there
4. There is is a much better destiny waiting for those who believe
So here I am gamers, letting you know on one hand about a video game that should prove interesting that’s coming out sometime next year; and on the other hand the reality that it is based on. Feel free to leave it at “mythos” or a “Judeo-Christian” religious belief; but maybe its something that will be worth studying the Bible for to see just how real it is after all. And more importantly you may find out how to avoid it!

AWESOME.
Check out the official announcement here!
No real details except that Media Molecule will not be developing the PSP game – they are going to keep focusing on the PS3 version adds and tweaks… This is great news for those of you who have the PSP but not the PS3. Hopefully the Sony crew will do the portable version justice.

Head’s Up For Content – Grand Theft Auto Style February 26, 2009

So the 360-exclusive expansion for Grand theft Auto 4, sub-titled “The Lost and the Damned” was released this week and is enjoying a high score from the critical masses. But it’s also raising a stink by pushing the envelope yet again. The game still features it’s normal drugs, sex, prostitution, and rock n’ roll shock values; but now there is a new player: full male nudity. I won’t be playing this expansion but reportedly Rockstar Games has stirred up yet another debate by making a technically great game with disturbing bad content (and the free press and money rolls in). I’m hearing that the all-the-way nudity happens in conjunction with a serious act of violence… See what they did there? So is Rockstar artfully asking the nation which offense offends us more, or are they just out to boost the ratings with more and more raunch and gore?
Either way, parents make sure to steer your kids away. Even Rockstar would say that…
Also; I’ve always wondered if these games get such good (review) press because of the bad content or because they are good games? If you take out the content and made it a T-rated game – would it be just as popular? Just thinking out loud.

This was posted on whattheyplay.com and I want to spread the message. Seems as though video games generally get singled out when they generate negative news – so here’s some positive stuff for a change… It seems that a parent of an autistic child was concerned about the games that their child was playing; with specific regard to communication. After hearing about LBP they decided to give it a try and the results sound great!
I will be sharing this story with some of the folks I know that may have similar concerns.
Here’s a quote:
After listening to you discussing Little Big Planet, I really got interested in the whole game, and like a flash, I figured out a way to get my son into another fun game and also get him to interact with everyone else. So Santa delivered a new copy of Little Big Planet and a third controller this year. LBP bridged the gap between a ‘boys game’ and a ‘girls game’ perfectly, so my daughter is having fun with it, I’m also playing with that third controller.
Here is the best part though; the communication between my son and my daughter and myself has been amazing.
Hit the link for the whole story!
-edited for spelling; in the title no less *facepalm*

Fire up your 360 or go here to queue up the download for when you get home from work
This game should be fairly popular amongst all of you xboxers out there… It’s a Real-Time-Strategy game based on the sells-like-crazy Halo series. It’s set 20 years prior to the events in the first Halo game on ye olde Xbox one…
I have no idea if it’s going to be great or if it’s going to fall to the curse of the hype machine – and I typically don’t even like RTS games; but I will be giving this one a shot later today…
