Dante’s Inferno Should Be Interesting February 26, 2009

It’s always wild to hear people talking about aspects of your faith use terms like “mythos” or “Judeo-Christian”.  While I appreciate the respectful manner of that kind of verbage; I just feel really compelled to shout at the top of my lungs that this subject matter is real!

Case in point, the in-development action game Dante’s Inferno, a title loosely based on Dante’s interpretative poem the Divine Comedy sends you, as a beefed up and very angry Dante, to Hell, in order to save your murdered fiance’s soul from the original big bad boss himself; Lucifer.  And no, Dante’s interpretation of Hell is not really supported by the Bible; But Hell itself is biblical, very real, and very scary.  Here are a few Biblical truths about it:

1. It’s not actually intended or designed for man, but for Satan and his tribe of fallen angels
2. In the parable of the Rich man and Lazarus – one of the most vivid and present-tense descriptions of Hell – we hear Jesus describe the rich man as being “in torment” and in “agony” and fully aware of his predicament
3. Hell’s duty is eternal and final, and people can end up there, and people don’t want to end up there
4. There is is a much better destiny waiting for those who believe

So here I am gamers, letting you know on one hand about a video game that should prove interesting that’s coming out sometime next year; and on the other hand the reality that it is based on.  Feel free to leave it at “mythos” or a “Judeo-Christian” religious belief; but maybe its something that will be worth studying the Bible for to see just how real it is after all.  And more importantly you may find out how to avoid it!
